On Tuesday August 2nd, neighbors throughout Rockaway Borough are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "Annual National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Rockaway Borough Police Department, will involve over 9,600 communities in all 50 states. In all, 32 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out against Crime on August 4th".
National Night Out is designed to:
1. Heighten crime and drug prevention along with drinking and driving and seat belt prevention awareness.
2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts.
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6pm to 9pm on August 2nd residents in neighborhoods throughout Rockaway Borough and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. The Rockaway Borough Police Department will be hosting a special event at Firemen's Field on Beach St in Rockaway Borough.
So come down and join forces with your neighbors to "Give Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party".
The Police department is looking for people interested in volunteering at this event.
Rockaway Borough residents are invited down to Firemen's Field to join the Rockaway Borough Police Department and other local and county organizations in celebrating National Night Out. It will be a Free Fun Filled Family night. There will be food, amusements, a moonwalk, Child I.D. Kits and many giveaways.
